Grammies 2001

Last night, the coveted Grammy Awards for CD's and music videos were given out in Los Angeles. The artist who drew the most attention this year was the controversial American rap musician Emminem. During the televised part of the ceremony, he performed together with Elton John, the established pop star from Great Britain. From a German point of view, however, the awards in classical music were the most interesting, as eleven recordings with German artists had been nominated this year, and three of them ended up winning a Grammy. The winners from Germany were the Berlin Philharmonic, conductor Helmuth Rilling, and several German singers who had participated in a recording of Busoni's opera "Dr. Faust." Georg Hirsch watched the ceremony and made his observations.
