Iraqi National Symphony Orchestra

The Iraqi war had led to a rift between Germany and the United States, but the two countries are gradually becoming reconciled again. In this context, of course, the terms "Germany" and "The United States," apply mostly to leading politicians. Many Americans were opposed to the war, and as a result, a wave of sympathy for the people of Iraq has arisen among the American population. Musicians are stepping into action - throughout the country, orchestras and individual musicians are helping the Iraqi National Symphony Orchestra, which seems to be exhausted in every way as a result of the U.N. sanctions against Iraq and the last war. Among those who help is the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, which has the North German conductor Andreas Delfs as its music director. Georg Hirsch spoke with some of the helpers, and with an old acquainting of the Iraqi orchestra.
