San Francisco Opera World Premiere
Tbe San Francisco Opera is spreading rumors about Mary Magdalene! It has been almost ten years since the novel "The Da Vinci Code" and the movie of the same title were rocking the boat because they suggested that Mary Magdalene, according to traditional Christian teaching a reformed prostitute, was actually Jesus's wife and favorite disciple. In the new opera "The Gospel of Mary Magdalene" by American composer Mark Adamo, Mary Magdalene also appears in this dual role. Furthermore, the Gospel of Mary Magdalene acknowledges a much more favorable status to women than the New Testament, and Jesus is shown froma different angle as well. Georg Hirsch attended the world premiere of the new opera and observed the reactions of the audience.
