Fitness Curtis Institute

The list of musicians who studied at Curtis Institute in Philadelphia is impressive, ranging from unforgotten U.S. conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein to the Chinese shooting star at the piano, Lang Lang. For the past 90 years, the famous conservatory on the East Coast of the United States has molded tomorrow's world stars. Newer accomplishments include a fitness program for the musicians, which - as all classes at Curtis Institute - is free of charge. Exceptionally talented musicians of prior generations were in many cases not even allowed to ride a bicycle as kids because parents and teachers were worried about their tender little musicians' hands. The Curtis Institute, on the other hand, emboldens its students to be physically active, consulting them which kind of training fits their individual physique and matches the requirements of their instrument. Georg Hirsch took a closer look at the fitness training for top musicians.
